About

StratoFins® Kit

StratoFins®, screw-on water rocket fins, are compatible with 95% of all available launchers either homemade or commercially available in the marketplace including those employing a rubber stopper, an expanding tube, nozzle, O-ring, or cable ties because it replicates the threaded portion of the bottle beyond the fins. StratoFins® requires no tools or glue for assembly. The StratoFins® kit includes 1 attachment ring and 3 fins along with an instruction sheet that provides information for creating a nose cone and several launching tips.

Instructions

Assemble StratoFins® by sliding each fin down a separate slot on the attachment ring beginning from the top. With all fins in place screw the attachment ring onto a soda bottle until snug. Works ideally with a 2 liter soda bottle, but smaller sizes can be used. This water rocket can be launched with or without a parachute attached since this configuration does not nose dive, but instead tumbles gently to the ground provided the nose cone is not permanently attached.

Create a nose cone from the top of a 2 liter bottle by starting a cut with a razor blade or box cutter about 4" down from the cap and just above the label of a plastic (PET*) soda bottle. Finish cutting around the bottle with scissors in a straight line. Cut around again if necessary to smooth and straighten the bottom edge of your new nose cone.

* Polyethylene terephthalate (aka PET) is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family that is used in soda pop bottles. Serious bodily injury could result from using any other type of bottle.

Testimonials

"Incredible fun! I had a great time with my son launching water rockets with these amazing fins. The bright red color was easy to see in the sky as it shot up several hundred feet and fun to watch. What a difference they make compared to no fins on a soda bottle or homemade fins."
Mary Ann Rogers - Durango, CO
"These fins are great! They easily quadruple the height that the water bottle can reach. They're durable, easy to screw on and off, and work with just about any launcher. A must have to really enjoy your launcher and get more performance out of it."
Ted Beck - Boise, ID
"These fins are so simple to use and have worked with every 2-liter bottle I have tried, perfect for groups of students. My class had so much fun shooting their water rockets off with the Stratofins. They were the finishing touch that brought it all together and really made the rocket flights impressive. Great teaching tool, as it provides an excellent opportunity to explain physics in a fun and engaging way!"
Emma Scholes - Ashton, NC

Launcher

StratoLauncher® IV Ultimate tilts 0 - 120 degrees and rotates for a versatile and compact water rocket launcher. Our complete launcher kit will enable you to propel a 2 liter plastic (PET*) soda pop bottle over 350 ft. into the sky using only water and compressed air from a bicycle pump or an air compressor. Fuel (water and air) is essentially free and readily available allowing countless launches without additional expense. StratoLauncher® supports most .5L, 1L, 1.25L and 2 liter plastic (PET*) bottles at air pressures as low as 10 PSI up to 120 PSI. After pumping up the bottle to the PSI of your choice, you control when liftoff occurs by squeezing the brake lever to release the rocket from a safe distance and out of the splash zone.

You will need to supply: Plastic (PET*) soda pop bottle, nose cone, water, and air source (bicycle pump, foot pump, or air compressor).

  • StratoLauncher® IV kit includes a water rocket launcher made of aluminum, stainless steel, and brass parts, a set of StratoFins and collapsible water fill funnel.
  • All models feature a 125 PSI safety valve preventing exploding bottles while pressurizing, a brake lever trigger, and a durable 1/4" ABS plastic launch pad.
  • StratoLauncher® IV will enable you to propel a 2 liter plastic (PET*) soda pop bottle over 350 ft.
  • Launcher supports air pressures as low as 10 PSI up to 120 PSI.
  • Great item for people of all ages for fun, science projects, school classes, parties, etc.

* Polyethylene terephthalate (aka PET) is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family that is used in soda pop bottles. Serious bodily injury could result from using any other type of bottle.

Altimeters

How high did your water rocket fly? Using the AltimeterOne or AltimeterTwo or AltimeterThree is the easiest way to find out. Just latch it to your parachute shroud line or double stick tape it to the side of your rocket, and launch it. The LCD readout tells you exactly how high the rocket flew by measuring the air pressure when the rocket reaches the peak altitude. It's accurate, easy-to-use, and works great with students and is perfect for science fair projects. Weighs only 10 grams, so it hardly affects the performace of your water rocket at all.

AltimeterThree

The AltimeterThree is a tiny flight altitude recorder that you attach to your flyer. By pressing a button on your mobile device, you can ask it to start recording. When it returns from the flight, the recorded sensor data is downloaded to your mobile device, where you can view, annotate, and share with friends. For certain sports it also records acceleration up to 24G in three dimensions so that you can analyze your flights in even greater detail.

As of March 2015, the Jolly Logic AltimeterThree has been approved by the National Association of Rocketry for use in rocketry competitions. AltimeterThree User Guide

  • 3-axis, 24g accelerometer can detect launch, acceleration, speed, ejection, and landing
  • AltimeterThree is a flight altitude recorder that is controlled by your smartphone or tablet.
  • If you would like to collect and share flight data, then this is the altimeter for you.
  • It captures your notes and observations on each flight.
  • You can view an interactive graph of altitude (and for certain sports, 3-axis acceleration) and produce a Microsoft Excel™ spreadsheet of flight data for further analysis.
  • If GPS is enabled on your phone, the location of each flight is saved, and can be viewed on a map.
  • Integration with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Flickr allow you to share your flights with just a tap.
  • AltimeterThree includes a recharging cable, and can be recharged from any USB port.
  • Please install the app before purchasing the altimeter, to make sure your device is compatible.
